A suspected UFO was spotted hovering over a beach during the sunset.

Onlookers enjoying the dreamy shoreline vista were left baffled.

Beachgoers gathered to look at the long, unidentified object with flashing lights in the far distance.

Other locals filmed the mysterious lights from the city centre at night to ask their followers what they could possibly be.

Many assumed they were runway lights from the local airport.

But witnesses said the airport was too far away and the origin of the strange lights still remains a mystery.

The alleged UFO was filmed in the port city of Antofagasta, north of Santiago, Chile, on Saturday (22 Mar).

One local said: “UFO sightings may seem strange to some, but get used to seeing them more often. It’s no surprise to us that these events are happening more regularly.”

Another added: “It’s the airport runway. My brother is in charge of the lights, and he told me that’s how they look from a distance.”

“The airport is not even visible from the hills of Antofagasta,” said Eduardo.

Marlon said: “I have seen this from many different angles, people suggest it’s the airport runway, is that true? Seems like a UFO to me.”

Roberto added: “For those who don’t believe in UFOs, just go for a walk in the Atacama Desert at around 9pm and watch the sky, then we’ll talk.”

“It’s a real UFO,” added Sebastian.

In a follow-up video, the local who filmed it said: “It is not the airport runway, due to the distance, the runway would have to be enormous to be seen from where we were.”
