A stuffed golden eagle, red squirrels and fish are for sale in a bizarre taxidermy auction.

The sale includes 25 lots of dead animals that have been preserved and put in glass cabinets.

The priciest item going under the hammer is a male Golden Eagle.

Red squirrels are classed as endangered on The Mammal Society’s Red List for Britain’s Mammals.

It has been modelled to perch on a branch with an acorn in its mouth.

In another listing, a pair of stuffed red squirrels in a glass case are also expected to sell for £100.

The animals have been attached to a ”naturalistic setting” with dried flowers and positioned clambering up a tree with one holding a hazelnut.

Other wacky items up for sale include a taxidermy dace fish.

But there is also preserved eel that dates back to 1994 expected to reach at least £500.

The listing reads: “In an aquatic setting, in a gilt lined bow fronted case, with gilt inscription.

”Common eel, 6lbs, taken by Framlingham Fisheries from Barteet Reservoir, Great Tey, Essex.”

The ‘Sporting and Natural History’ auction is taking place at Duke’s Auctioneers in Dorchester, Dorset on 15 February.

A number of fossilised dinosaur eggs and mounted stag heads are also going under the hammer.
