A mum says she was “stroked by a poltergeist” after spending a night in Britain’s most haunted house.

Charlotte Drewett was brave enough to stay at 30 East Drive in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, which is dubbed “the home of The Black Monk”.

The Black Monk is said to be the most violent poltergeist in Europe.

The 48-year-old claims that she and five of her friends were terrorised by the ghost throughout the night.

They heard loud banging and toys would light up with no explanation.

The group arrived at 6.30pm and stayed in the notorious house until 8am the next day.

They held a seance with an Ouija board and used shop worker, Charlotte, as a human pendulum.

Charlotte took an airbed and sleeping bag, but says she didn’t catch a wink of sleep as creepy dolls set up around the house were staring at her.

Another member of the group complained that something had been tugging on their sleeping bag in the night.

“From the outside, it looks like an ordinary house,” Charlotte, from Portsmouth, told What’s the Jam.

“When you’re inside, you can feel that something isn’t quite normal.

“We were given a tour and they explained what could happen and the history, but then the tour guides left us to our own devices.

“It was terrifying.

“There were toys that only went off if you pressed the button and they went off twice.

“We would ask if anyone was there and you could hear a subtle knock.

“There was a dress hung up on the wardrobe and when you touched it there would be loud banging like they were warning us not to touch it.

“We were in the living room in complete darkness and I felt someone touch the back of my neck. It was like I was being stroked.

“There was no way that anyone was behind me. It was creepy.

“We used me as a human pendulum so I stood and fixed my eyes on one spot and everyone else asked questions.

“If I was pushed back it was no and if I was pushed forward it was yes.

“I couldn’t feel hands on me but I could feel myself being moved. It’s hard to explain but it was the oddest experience of my life.”

The Black Monk is said to have terrorised a family who lived in the ordinary-looking semi-detached house in the sixties.

According to 30 East Drive’s website, members of the family were dragged down the stairs and slapped around the face.

It’s reported that they held exorcisms to try and get rid of the spirit, who they nicknamed Fred, but were eventually forced to leave.

The mum-of-two has always believed in the afterlife as she’s had her own ghostly experiences.

She said: “I believe that there are spirits out there. I’ve had a few experiences with my deceased grandmother, Joan.

“I can smell the lily of the valley when she’s around because that was her favourite scent.

“My first experience with spirits was when I was a small child and I told my mum that grandma had been to see me and she said hello.

“I believe we have guardian angels watching over us.

“When the opportunity came up to stay in Britain’s most haunted house, I absolutely wanted to do it. It’s right up my street.”
