Speciality coffee has reached new highs and lows in recent years.
But a new viral trend taking the internet by storm may just be taking things a step too far.
A coffee shop in China has shocked customers after adding an unusual twist to the humble latte: spring onions.
The vegetable, known for its sharp taste and potent smell, is taking centre stage after being paired with its most unlikely companion.

A video of the concoction has been shared on Instagram (@jintianchinatan ), with lashings of spring onions mixed with coffee and milk.
The person trying it seems to love the stuff – greedily gulping down the chunky substance.
Dubbed the ‘Scallion Latte’, the video has over 13.2m views and 130,000 likes, reports What’s The Jam.
Many people can’t believe their eyes.

Coffee lovers are questioning the taste, saying the look alone is making them feel “nauseous”.
“Do you mean coffee topped with onions? That’s not a treat is it?” quipped one user.
“I feel nauseous looking at it,” added someone else.

One user said: “Who invented that for topping all food, eh this is even for drink.”
“So shocked, damn” added another person.
This isn’t the first coffee drink that has puzzled people.
Earlier this year, in February, Starbucks left customers stunned after releasing a braised pork latte.
The coffee chain reportedly launched the limited-edition drink in celebration of the Year of the Dragon, at £7.50 a pop.
Called the ‘Lucky Savory Latte’, it was composed of braised pork flavour sauce, espresso and steamed milk, finished off with some more meaty sauce and a chunk of fried pork breast.
Starbucks told local news that the flavour of the drink was “relatively unique” as well as “dense and smooth”.
