A robot striker has destroyed an ex-World Cup goalkeeper in a charity penalty shootout.

Zhao Lina, who earned 38 caps for China and played in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, called the bot’s power “absolutely insane”.

The humanoid robot comprehensively outplayed the 1.88m-tall goalie from the penalty spot, sending multiple shots past her with devastating speed and precision.

Beijing-based company Booster Robotics released footage of their T2 model whacking balls at the experienced goalkeeper.

Zhao appeared unable to react effectively to the T2’s powerful strikes.

She described the ball speed as “absolutely insane,” openly admitting she “simply could not react in time”.

However, she did have some success against Booster’s smaller K1 model.

The demonstration formed part of a charity football event for underprivileged children at a primary school in Yingde in Guangdong Province, China, on 12 June.

Content creator Lao Gao also took part in the penalty kick event, as reported by Whats The Jam.

The T2 features high-performance computing, including an NVIDIA AGX Orin GPU delivering 200 trillion operations per second, and builds on earlier models that have excelled in RoboCup robot soccer competitions.

The company has separately shown its robots unleashing shots powerful enough to dent walls and reach speeds of around 100kph in controlled tests.

The T2 humanoid robot is scheduled for commercial launch in September 2026.
