A woman was left horrified after hundreds of ladybirds swarmed her house – covering her ceilings and window sills.

Laura Wilson was baffled when she walked into her home to find the red-and-black bugs crawling all over her walls.

The customer services advisor had no idea what to do – so she turned to TikTok for help, sharing a video of the creepy-crawly chaos that has now racked up more than 964,000 views.

“This is the second time it has happened this year; however, it seems to happen every year around the same time on really hot days,” the 32-year-old from Leicester told What’s The Jam.

“They only come in one window, so all windows were open, but just my landing window, and I think this is because this side of the house is sun-facing.

“There have been at least 100 on my walls, and there must be still at least another hundred in my window sills now.

“The majority of the comments on social media are saying they are hibernating, they like the white walls, and that they like the heat.”

But Laura wasn’t feeling the love for her uninvited guests.

She said: “I am petrified of anything that has legs, so I had to get rid of them as soon as [possible].

“Especially when they start flying, they just make me feel all yuck!

“I hoovered them up and put them back outside on the grass.

“TikTok comments are also saying to vinegar, washing up liquid, citronella, or lavender oil your window sills.”

In Laura’s viral clip, the camera pans around her walls, showing dozens of ladybirds huddled in corners, cracks, and crevices.

She captioned it: “POV: Your house is being invaded by ladybirds.”

The video has since attracted 24,600 likes and over 1,000 comments, as others shared their own creepy encounters.

Sophie said: “As someone who has a phobia…this is horrifying.”

Jayde added: “I noticed the outside of my house was absolutely covered today! Freaked me out!”

Lyndsey said: “Loads our way have to say – all over the windows and front door.”

Sarah added: “I am STRESSED right now about it.”

Sian joked: “I’d move out.”

And Summer quipped: “I’ll take them over the spiders that keep turning up everywhere in my house.”

Another added: “I’d break down. Absolutely petrified of them.”

According to Pest UK, ladybirds swarm in late autumn as temperatures drop, searching for warm, dry places to spend the winter – often in homes, sheds, or under tree bark.

They’re harmless to humans, with Pest UK saying: “They don’t sting and if they do bite, their bites don’t cause serious injury or spread disease.

“However, a swarm can comprise hundreds of ladybirds, and they can cause damage to property.

“When ladybirds become stressed, they secrete blood from the joints in their legs.

“This has an unpleasant smell and can cause orange stains on furniture, walls, soft furnishings, and carpets.”

Experts recommend blocking small gaps to stop them getting in – and using a residual insecticide spray if they’re already swarming.

As for Laura, she’s just hoping her colorful houseguests find somewhere leafier to settle next time.

Until then, it’s one woman, one Hoover – and hundreds of tiny red roommates.
