A psychic medium has revealed why Christmas is the hardest time of year – with spirits flooding her with messages from the beyond.
Thanks to her abilities, Chloe Smith has experienced everything from communicating directly with ghosts to feeling them hitch a ride in her car.
While the 28-year-old embraces her gift, she says the festive season brings an emotional intensity unlike any other.

She believes the emotional energy of Christmas “thins the veil” between worlds, making spirit activity harder to ignore.
“The holiday season is the hardest time as a medium,” Chloe, from Staffordshire, told What’s The Jam.
“I’m eternally grateful for my gift, but I have to say it’s a mixture of emotions in the festive season.

“When we talk of vibrations with connecting with spirits, the veil between the physical world and the spiritual is at its thinnest, meaning it’s easier to communicate with the dead.
“It’s known that Halloween is when the veil is famously thin.

“But the holiday season creates a secondary, sentiment-driven thinning.
“I find it’s the most powerful around Christmastime.
“When we are grieving, wishing our loved ones to come closer – they certainly are.

“This emotion acts like a powerful magnet, drawing spirits closer to the physical plane.
“Spirits who are well and settled are attracted to the concentrated pockets of love, generosity, and joy.
“They enjoy being near the celebrations, the singing, and the family togetherness.
“Their messages are often simple reinforcements of ‘I see you, I love you, keep living your life.”
But this mass calling to spirits makes for a busy day for people with abilities like Chloe’s.
She added: “For a medium, this can feel like standing in a crowded room where everyone is shouting your name at once.”

But it also means she gets to connect with family members, friends and pets that she herself has lost.
Chloe said: “I will see my own past loved ones come and go throughout Christmas Day, even my old dogs too.
“[it’ll be] just a casual hello or they take a seat, flicker a candle, or simply have a two-second pop in!
“They come close during Christmas.
“It’s all about togetherness and family, so if you are missing a loved one this Christmas, they are with you!
“Usually, during this time, they don’t come to deliver a message about their own death.
“Instead, they come to observe and participate in the love of family.
“They are often seen or felt near old ornaments – hovering by the box of old, hand-me-down decorations, or by specific recipes sitting in the kitchen watching a traditional meal being prepared.
“And the hearth or fireplace – spirits are attracted to the warmth and the central focus of the gathering.
“It can be a struggle.
“But that said, it’s the most magical experience.
“I am able to pass on messages during the Christmas table from my dead relatives, but also the waves of emotions can be hard too.
“I want to hug my nan and have a huge conversation, but it’s just not that easy!
“It’s almost like being teased every day, that’s what I find the hardest.”
But the busy mum has her own method of staying present throughout the day, if the interactions become too much.

Chloe explained: “The closed door visualisation I use helps massively.
“When I need rest, I use a specific visualisation of a strong, heavy, energetic door that I lock – signifying to the spirit world that I am temporarily unavailable.
“This helps to prevent burnout.”
Despite the emotional challenges, Chloe says Christmas ultimately reminds her of why she values her gift.
She added: “It’s magical, fantastic, and I pinch myself daily, thinking, ‘Is this real’?
“I suppose to sceptics they’d say I’m delusional, but to me it’s a tool of love.
“I am just a channel to pass on messages and to communicate with souls who have departed.”
