Fancy being paid to spend the entire summer on a private island? Here’s the perfect opportunity – but it comes with a catch.

Situated off the coast of Ireland is the picturesque Great Blasket Island, which offers seaside views and peaceful serenity all year round.

Now, the opportunity has come up to live on this incredible island for free, while being paid to do so, for up to two people over the summer holidays – great for kicking those January blues.

Until the 1950s, the island was home to a fishing community, but has been largely uninhabited since then.

Currently, it has a seal colony, stunning scenery and prehistoric sites, as well as many species of plants and flowers which thrive during the summer months.

And while amenities and creature comforts are scarce, it’s only a short ferry ride away from Kerry.

But how can the opportunity to bask in the sunshine while earning a petty penny be swiped?

During the summer months, you’ll be expected to run the coffee shop for locals and visitors alike, as well as take care of holiday accommodation and the boat trips.

On their website, applications are running for couples, or two friends, to live and work on the island from April until October 2024.

The job description reads: “Your role is to manage the coffee shop and 4 holiday cottages on the Great Blasket Island.

“This involves meeting and greeting overnight guests, serving tea and coffee to day visitors, and ensuring the day to day running are being met.

“We are looking for hardworking, responsible and trustworthy duo that have great people skills and initiative.”

While living on an idyllic island seems to good to be true, there will be plenty of time to explore the sights – but the job offer comes with a firm warning: “Please be aware this is not a holiday job.

“The season can get VERY busy and you will be on your feet for most of the day.”

If selected, the successful candidate will be responsible for keeping the coffee shop clean and tidy, cleaning down the guest accommodation after checkout, then serving customers in the café until 5:00pm.

As for living accommodation, staff will be given a place to sleep above the coffee shop and will share the main bedroom together, as well as having full use of any amenities.

In the evening, a stove can be lit for cooking and warmth, as well as laundry being collected and washed on the mainland.

For food, shops will deliver daily and during the busier months – June, July and August – two more helpers will join.

To be accepted for the role, you must have the ability to work in the EU, have money to travel to Ireland and have good spoken English.

All food and accommodation, apart from alcohol and toiletries, is paid for, but there will be no days off – unless the weather plays up.

If you’re interested, visit the application on the website Here. and get ready for a summer full of adventure.
