A Brit living in Benidorm has lifted the lid on why he chooses to pay for everything on card in the Spanish holiday province – and if it’s safe to carry cash.

Harry Poulton regularly shares his travel tips and advice about the party town with his 50,000 followers on TikTok.

That includes the strange things tourists can be fined for, including building sandcastles on the beach, as well as helpful hints for anyone coming to holiday there.

In a recent video, shared with Whats The Jam, the 24-year-old revealed why he prefers to pay for everything by card, and not carry cash.

Harry, from Brighton, said: “I always feel a lot safer.

“I’m always in control of the exchange rate and what I’m spending.

“With cash, I always spend loads more and I never actually know what I’m spending.”

According to Harry, paying with a card means you get “the best exchange rate physically possible”.

He added: “I always recommend carrying a little bit of cash, though, because there are some places in Benidorm that don’t accept cards – they only take cash.

“So it’s always good to carry a little bit of cash.”

As for bumbags? Harry claims it is “100% safe” to keep your euros stored in them while walking around the holiday hotspot.

The expat recently made headlines after claiming that tourists have been “priced out” of visiting the holiday spot.

A British expat in Benidorm warns tourists of a rising roadside robbery scam in Spain and urges drivers never to pull over for strangers on highways to avoid being targeted.

He said: “Benidorm is getting expensive.

“Is it just me that feels this way? Especially the accommodation.

“Everything this year has gone so much more than last year.

“Where is everybody? It’s the middle of July, and it’s absolutely dead.

“Normally at this time of year, Benidorm’s mental – it’s busy, there are people absolutely everywhere.”
