An explorer has revealed the spooky findings inside an old and decaying mall which has been left behind to rot – with people comparing it to something out of The Last of Us.
Known as Decaying Midwest, they regularly explore abandoned buildings and share them with their 2.2m followers on TikTok (@decayingmidwest ).
In a recent clip, which racked up over 1.3m views and 13,000 likes, he showed a mall, which was once loved by the public, that has been left “frozen in time”.

In a few snaps, closed down stores with signs handing off the hinges and old items left to gather dust can be seen.

Sale stands appear to have been smashed, with graffiti adorning shop windows and walls.

From the ceiling, hanging wires dangle down and dotted around the building are retro posters, including Columbus’ Sports ‘Own It’ 2002 advert.
Most dangerously of all, though, are the flooded floors, which have left still water behind.

Still – or stagnant water – provides a better incubator than running water for many infectious or bacterial diseases.

“I heard about the abandoned mall through friends and decided to check it out,” the content creator, from Chicago, Illinois, US, told What’s The Jam.

“Being inside the mall was very eerie and very cold.
“The entire first floor was flooded.”
