An urban explorer has captured incredible photographs showing the inside of an abandoned asylum, which has been used as a Location for several movies.
Ben Stevens visited Medfield State Hospital and has described the place as “sinister”.
The 31-year-old was keen to visit the former infirmary after discovering it was used in filming the 2010 movie Shutter Island, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Other horror/thriller films have also been shot here, including The New Mutants and The Box.
“It felt very cool to be there as I’m a very big film fan,” Ben, who is from Cambridge, UK, told What’s The Jam.
“I found out about it because I wanted to know where they filmed Shutter Island.
“Obviously they dressed up a lot of the building as a set for the movie.
“But I just liked the whole feel of the place, it felt very New England with the red buildings and the leaves.”
When inside, Ben found a lot of the old equipment had been left behind, including wheelchairs abandoned in corridors, and beds.
The building appeared very worn on the inside and parts of it extremely dark.
Ben said: “I even found a patient’s shoes.
“The whole place was very sinister because I know they conducted a lot of experiments on their patients.
“They also had a very high security wing, which apparently mobsters were sent to which is pretty cool.”
Formerly known as Medfield Insane Asylum, the building is located just outside of Boston, in Massachusetts, US.
Established in 1892, it closed its doors in April 2003 due to continued deterioration.
The property also closed due to concern from Medfield residents over patients who had been declared criminally insane from Bridgewater State Hospital, also in Massachusetts.
The grounds of the asylum are now open to the public after being restored – the only abandoned psychiatric hospital in the US where the grounds are free to roam.
