A six-century-old ghost village, just an hour’s drive from a major capital city, is being sold for £154,000.
Matandrino on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain, is just 4,251 sq m.
It includes 17 buildings, practically all of which are in ruins.
It is just one-and-a-half miles from the Spanish capital where flats fetch more money.

Matandrino once had nine households.
Its inhabitants mainly lived from agriculture, mostly wheat and barley, and livestock farming.
Several livestock pens remain among the village’s ruins.
By the mid-20th century, Matandrino had 40 residents, who, one by one, packed up and left over the years.

The village dates to the 15th century and was originally called Mata Endrino, likely because of the ubiquitous blackthorns in the area.
It’s not the first time it’s gone on sale.
Its former owner, Roque Benito acquired it in 2005 with plans to develop an education-related project.

However, the 2008 financial crash frustrated his plans, prompting him to put it up for sale.
He told local media: “Now I am older, my daughters no longer live in Prádena, and I prefer to get rid of it.”
The listing says: “This village offers a unique investment opportunity, an old charming orchard, and several houses with an authentic Spanish village atmosphere.
“And let’s not forget a true gem: a gateway or barn that adds a special touch to this property.
“Although these structures are currently in ruins, electricity is 1.6km away, and water would come from a spring, imagine the potential this place holds.”
