An abandoned 1950s diner has been discovered with its contents left to rot – including old canned goods, a vintage ice tea machine and milkshake cups scattered across the floor.

Urban explorer Dave, also known online as Freaktography, found the time capsule after driving past it on his way to another site.

Sharing the news with his 57,000 social media followers, he claims it was once a trendy destination for many decades.

The small diner, which can be found in New Jersey, US, is decorated with classic white walls, red booths and green worktops.

A huge sign hangs on the outside, declaring: “Thick shakes, hamburgers, frozen custard” – along with signs and images of food along the windows.

Old menus on the walls reveal what customers used to order – including cheeseburgers for just £5.50 ($6.99) and grilled cheese for £3.19 ($3.99).

Former owners have also left behind an ice tea machine, coffee machine, milkshake blender and a till as if someone was in a hurry to shut for the day (or forever).

The kitchen is still set up for service, with several deep-fat fryers filled with oil, plates left out for serving and a six-ring hob primed for the next meal to be cooked.

There are also shelves of tinned goods including syrup, peaches, dessert toppings and cake mixes.

Milkshakes and coffee cups can also be seen scattered across the floor.

The diner was reportedly last owned by a local family in 2011 but closed its doors in October 2021.

“This classic old dairy bar opened in 1956 and it still has the original exterior signage on the roof,” Dave, from Canada, told What’s The Jam.

“Internet research shows that this was a trendy destination for many decades with travellers stopping by regularly as well as locals coming by for their monthly car meets in the parking lot.

“On the right side of the diner is a walk-in/eat-in burger restaurant with limited seating, on the left side is a walk-up iced cream bar where you order from the window.”

The explorer shared a clip of the diner online, where the video has racked up thousands of views.

Renea added: “It’ll be good to reopen this diner to its retro brilliance.”

Someone else commented: “Love old diners.”

Another fan wrote: “The food was delicious the ice cream was even better! It was a summer staple trip on our way to cowtown.”
