A trippy hen and a gravity-defying ‘Jedi’ dog are among the jaw-dropping snaps battling it out to be crowned Britain’s favourite photo.

The stunning shortlist for the RSPCA Young Photographer People’s Choice Award has been revealed, showcasing the incredible talent of the next generation.

From playful pets to perfectly timed action shots, 15 eye-catching images are now in the running, with the public deciding the winner.

Voting opened on Tuesday (17 March), and closes on 24 March, with the champion set to be announced on 26 March, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Among the standout entries is ‘Head up!’ by 17-year-old Amber Buchanan, featuring her Swedish flower hen Mocha glowing in a surreal purple and blue light.

Another fan favourite is ‘Jedi Jump’ by 10-year-old Jamie Smart from Wales, showing a Cocker spaniel leaping through the air like something straight out of Star Wars.

Dog lovers are spoiled for choice, with Zoe Beales, 18, from West Sussex capturing a joyful spaniel splashing through a puddle.

Gemma Hollingsworth, 18, from County Durham, also made the cut with ‘The happiest husky’, starring her beaming pooch Hunter.

Cats are not to be outdone, with Anwen Whitehead, 17, from Wales snapping Emlyn mid-dive into a patch of daffodils.

Ella Sharpe, 16, from Hertfordshire, caught her cheeky tabby Bijou winking at the camera.

And Harry Hollingsworth, 13, from North Yorkshire, impressed judges with ‘The world turned upside down’, a striking black-and-white shot of a cat throwing its head back.

Nature and scenic shots also feature, including 13-year-old Alexander Wilkinson’s image of a labrador waiting patiently against a stunning Lake District backdrop.

Iqra Abdul-Kahar, 15, from London, captured a chilled-out cat lounging on a windowsill.

Kacper Stempka, 17, from Merseyside, wowed with an adorable close-up of a dog.

George Wild, 16, from Lancashire, also made the list with a cosy snap of a curled-up cat.

The youngest finalist, nine-year-old Katherine Nash-Warner from Norfolk, impressed with a beautiful shot of a hoverfly resting on hydrangea.

Evie Watt, 11, from Aberdeenshire, captured a dog peering into its reflection in a rockpool.

Isaac Savage, 15, from North Yorkshire, snapped two gulls mid-screech on the historic Abeyconwy House in Wales.

And rounding off the list is a muddy, mischievous Cocker spaniel shot by Nel Masters, 18, from Cambridgeshire.

Andrew Forsyth, RSPCA photographer and judge, said: “The photos shortlisted for the People’s Choice award this year are fantastic and wonderfully varied – from sweet and funny snaps of pets showing off their unique personalities to stunning close-up, detailed shots.

“It’s a brilliant collection of images from some truly passionate and talented young people, and we encourage everyone to not only enjoy these photos, but to vote for their favourite too.”
