A breathtaking collection of panoramic images has earned international recognition at one of the world’s biggest photography competitions.

Italian photographer Alex Wides – real name Alessandro Cantarelli – was crowned Open Photographer of the Year at the Epson International Pano Awards 2025.

Wides, known for his dramatic landscapes and extreme panoramic style, wowed judges with Last Fireworks – a fiery desert sunset glowing beneath stormy clouds.

He also topped the Nature and Landscape category with his vivid night scenes ‘Jackpot and Mann’, a vivid scene showing the aurora dancing over Norway and moonlight glinting across snowy Alpine peaks.

Spanish snapper Daniel Viñé took home the Epson Digital Art Prize for his vibrant shot of women weaving fishing nets in Vietnam, while also winning the RAW Planet Award for ‘Cathedral of Shadows’, a sunrise over Utah’s rugged mesas.

The Southeast Asia Open Photographer of the Year title went to William Chua from Singapore for his powerful black and white image of wildebeest crossing a river in full migration, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Meanwhile, Kevin Nyun from the US was named Amateur Photographer of the Year for his series ‘The Altiplano Landscape, Frozen and Remnants’, capturing the haunting beauty of Bolivia’s high plains.

Other honours included Christoph Simon from Germany, who won the VR/360 Award for a stunning Icelandic panorama, and Chris Byrne from the US, who received the Curator’s Award for his image ‘Elysium’.

Organisers said this year saw an explosion of ultra-wide shots, low-angle perspectives and aurora-filled skies, reflecting both artistic innovation and the peak of the solar cycle.
