A woman was left gobsmacked after coming home to find her sofa completely destroyed – with the cheeky culprit sitting nearby looking totally unfazed.
The hilarious moment was caught on camera and has since racked up more than 899,000 views on Instagram.
Footage shows a prairie dog – a burrowing rodent from the squirrel family – perched calmly beside a heavily chewed sofa, as if butter wouldn’t melt.

Yulia Orlenko, 38, filmed the chaotic aftermath at her home.
“We were out of the home and this is how they find a way to entertain themselves,” Yulia told Whats The Jam.

“There are two of them at home.”
Despite the costly damage, Yulia admitted she couldn’t stay angry at the adorable troublemaker.
She said: “Of course we were very surprised but she is so charming, we can do nothing, just admit their necessities and that they’re trying to make their lives better.”

The pet owner, who is based between Spain and Thailand, explained that chewing is actually a natural behaviour for rodents.
According to the video caption, gnawing helps them control their teeth growth and manage stress levels.
Without proper outlets, rodents can become destructive – turning furniture into their next target.

The clip, shared on Instagram via @eva_and_jorik , sparked a mixed reaction online.
One person fumed: “This isn’t cute. This is a bored exotic animal with no companionship and no enclosure. This is neglect.”
