A video has gone viral of the shocking moment a zoo keeper pulled a 30-inch stick out from an elephant’s trunk.

Staff started getting concerned about the mammal, named Yindi, after noticing she was struggling to move her trunk.

Scared she could have paralysis, the team did an X-ray and examined her trunk.

That’s when they discovered the stick, which had been sucked inside.

The zoo workers, from Dutch Amersfoort Zoo in the Netherlands, knew that had to work fast to lessen the damage to her snout.

Therefore, the Zoo’s medical experts were called in, who then took her into a veterinary room and gave her anaesthesia.

They managed to remove the item from the trunk with large, special pliers, as reported by What’s The Jam.

They also recorded the moment and shared a clip to Instagram, (@dierenparkamersfoort), where the video has over 272,000 views.

In the clip, one worker can be seen holding Yindi’s trunk while another grabs a pair of pliers and secures himself onto the end of the stick.

He then forcibly pulls the stick straight out of her nose, quick and fast, to avoid any lasting damage.

The stick measured nearly 30 inches – around 2.4ft.

The team can then be seen washing the animal down with water while cheering in the background.

The post was captioned: “Elephant Yindi played a little too enthusiastic and it caused a 75-centimetre branch to get stuck in her slurf.

“Elephants use their slurfs to eat and drink, so it was very important that the branch was removed as soon as possible.

“After consultation with the team of our veterinarian, animal caretakers and specialists from other parks, an action plan was made.

“Yindi is now doing well again!”

The clip has gathered over 3,400 likes, as well as 70 comments from followers.

One person said: “How nice, such a good ending! Nicely done.”
