The internet has been left terrified by a fish with fangs so huge it can chew through crocodile bones in 30 seconds.

The goliath tigerfish (hydrocynus goliath) is a large predatory freshwater fish of the Alestidae family.

The aquatic vertebrate animal is usually found in the Congo River Basin and Lake Tanganyika in Central Africa, along with at least four closely related species.

Many followers have been left baffled by its appearance, believing it to be a piranha or a barracuda.

However, the fearsome-looking creature has been confirmed to be a goliath tigerfish.

One local commented: “I don’t think I would eat a fish like that!”

Another said: “That’s no fish bro, it’s a monster.”

Goliath tigerfish are considered one of the most ferocious fish in the world.

The predators have large, razor-sharp teeth and usually hunt in packs.

They are so aggressive, they are said to be able to chomp through crocodile bones in just 30 seconds.

Goliath tigerfish have even been known to catch large birds of prey flying near the water’s surface.

Due to their ferocity, they are particularly prized as game fish, as reported by What’s the Jam.

Gamefishing crews consider them the African equivalent of the South American piranha, despite belonging to completely different zoological families.

They have an average length of 4.9ft (1.5m) with an average weight of 110lb (50kg).
