A tiny kitten travelled 175 miles after crawling under a car bonnet.

The mischievous moggy crept into the engine bay while motor owners Scheila and Francisco Moreira weren’t looking.

They had even checked under their car’s front hood before setting off but didn’t see the puss.

The couple had been staying in a chalet and there were lots of stray cats in the area.

Scheila, 61, said: “We looked everywhere, we made some noise to see if there was any animal.

“We didn’t hear any meowing.

“He’s very small. I don’t know if he stayed quiet because he was scared, as he’s really tiny.”

They made the three-and-a-half-hour drive home from the Enchanted Well Waterfall in Teresina de Goiás close to Brasília, Brazil on Sunday (3 Dec).

They first noticed the kitty was under the bonnet when one of their pet dogs became flustered by something inside the car.

Their daughter Tiffany, 29, said: “We restrained her and went to see what it could be, but we didn’t find anything.

“Late at night, we heard a meow and searched again, but we couldn’t find him.”

It was only early on Monday (4 Dec), when her dad imitated a cat meowing as he crouched next to the motor, that the feline responded.

Tiffany added: “We put food under the car to guide him and looked for a space to get him out of there.”

The kitten was unharmed.

As the family has pet dogs, they are now looking for another home for the puss.

Cats that crawl into car engine bays risk sustaining severe burns or falling onto the road and being run over.
