A group of six puppies with “grate” names are looking for their forever home – but those interested must love cheese.

Edam, a King Charles Spaniel, gave birth to her brood a few weeks ago.

The puppies, named Stilton, Halloumi, Cheddar, Camembert, Mozzarella and Parmesan, are now ready to find their new parents.

The eight-week-old pooches, which are crossed with a Poodle, have had their first vaccinations and vet checks.

And this week, applications opened to adopt one of them, reports What’s The Jam.

The RSCPA Northamptonshire Branch anticipated there would be a high volume of people interested – and they were right, with applications closing the same day.

Those shortlisted have been contacted to find out which cheesy pup they’ll be taking home.

There are four boys: Stilton, Parmesan, Camembert and Cheddar and two girls: Halloumi and Mozzarella.

Stilton is described as a “confident boy who loves his food. He loves playing and can be a bit cheeky in an endearing way.”

Parmesan is a “quieter boy who loves having a relax in a cosy bed and having a cuddle. He would make a wonderful companion in a quieter home.”

Camembert is “playful and loving […] [and] can be a bit cheeky but is quick to learn.”

Cheddar is a “sweet boy who loves a cuddle and being close to people. He is a sensitive boy who has occasionally been picked on by his siblings but he has so much love to give.”

Halloumi is a “sweet and gentle girl who does seek reassurance from her mum and siblings. She has a lovely nature and will continue to grow in confidence.”

And Mozzarella is described as being “cheeky and playful” and “loves attention but also happy to entertain herself too.”

Cheddar and Camembert both have umbilical hernias, though the RSCPA notes these can be repaired at the same time as neutering.

Those selected will need to bring them back for their second dose of vaccinations on the 27 October 2025.

And they will also need to be neutered at around 12 months old, which will take place at the branch’s dedicated vets.

Over 1,600 applications were received and each pup has been reserved, pending visits and home checks.

Their mum, Edam, won’t be available to adopt for a while and will go into foster care to decompress after the birth.
