A dog owner has revealed that they spend at least £500 per month on their “spoilt” pooch – including going on holidays abroad.

Aaron, 33, is “obsessed” with his four-year-old pup, Bruce, a Border Terrier.

So much so, that he even has a tattoo of his paw on his arm.

Bruce, who has at least £500 a month spent on him, has been to Ireland and Spain – and most recently, had an £800 birthday party.

“I spent my bonus throwing an extravagant party for him, [with] doggie treats, champagne and a new bed,” the general manager, who lives in London, told What’s The Jam.

“My friends think one of the most outrageous things I’ve done is getting him a passport so he could travel to Ireland and Spain for our holidays.

“If I’m going, Bruce is going.

“His photo in his passport is something I will cherish forever.

“He’s also European which I think is pretty glam.

“My boyfriend did once ask, if you had the choose me or Bruce, who would you choose?

“Boyfriends come and go but Brucies are for life.”

Bruce, who gets groomed up to six times a year at £160 a visit, also has his own postal deliveries of fresh meat from the butchers.

He said: “We have a butcher who sends us all their leftovers they can’t sell, in a cute cardboard box, wrapped and tied with lace addressed to him.

“It’s not cheap, but it’s cute.

“I also love buying him new beds every few months.

“Only the best for my Brucie.

“Toys also cost me a fortune. No matter how strong it is, he rips it.

“But he’s worth it.

The monthly cost includes foods, treats, vet membership, grooming and “other bits and bobs”.

Aaron and Bruce’s relationship comes as it was found that 64% of dog owners believe their pet’s happiness is more important than their own.

The findings, by pet insurance brand ManyPets, also showed that 48% of people put their pet’s needs over their partner’s or children’s.

For Aaron, this rings true – and says he’ll always put his furry pal’s happiness before his own.

He added: “Bruce is my absolute pride and joy.

“If I’m being totally honest, I think Bruce saved my life.

“During the pandemic, living alone and unable to work, it was Bruce’s arrival that changed everything.

“Bruce kept me going every single day. We’d walk from dawn till dusk.

“Partners in crime.”
