A huge 9ft snake named ‘Sir Hiss-a-Lot’ was found in a stunned family’s garden.

The reticulated python was spotted slithering in the front yard.

Officials said they were unsure if the snake had escaped from a nearby home or was abandoned.

Dubbed Sir Hiss-a-Lot by rescuers, the python was taken back to the shelter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, US, for care.

Rae Smith, of Members of the Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control shelter, said: “We can’t confirm for sure if the python was abandoned, as it’s entirely possible that it may have escaped some type of enclosure.

“But there is potentially some suspicion that it was abandoned because, in my experience, this is a rather common thing for people to do when they can no longer care for them.”

Reticulated pythons, native to Southeast Asia, are illegal to keep as pets in Iowa, as reported by What’s The Jam.

As a result, the shelter said they have found a new home for Sir Hiss-a-Lot in the neighbouring state of Illinois.

They announced that the snake would be cared for by a partner organisation and put up for adoption.

A spokesperson said; “Our famous slithery guest, Sir Hiss-a-Lot the reticulated python, has officially checked out of Cedar Rapids Animal Care & Control.

“He was safely picked up this morning and is currently en route to a new home out of state where he’ll have plenty of room.
