A group of guests were left shocked when discovering a baby seal taking a much-needed rest in their room.

They weren’t aware of the unexpected arrival until peering through the window.

In a clip, captured on CCTV, the sneaky seal is shown making its way across a sandy beach – before entering the room.

After spotting the adorable intruder, it’s believed that the room’s guests informed staff at the Pier 7 Zandpaviljoen Hotel, located in Vlissigen, Netherlands.

A local animal rescue group was alerted and sent out a team to disturb the wild grey seal from its slumber.

Zeeland Animal Welfare Foundation shared a post about the incident on 4 February, as reported by What’s The Jam.

They said: “We often receive strange reports and are not easily surprised anymore, but when we received a report tonight we could not believe it at first.

“We were called by restaurant Boulevard 17 – ‘There is a seal in a hotel room’.

“‘A what?’ we asked again.

“[…] Hotel guests did not know what they saw when a seal was snoring in their room.

“Fortunately our valued colleagues from the Sea Animal Rescue Team Netherlands RTZ were there quickly to assist our ambulance crews.

“Luckily, the RTZ employees have enough experience and put the seal, who had become quite grumpy due to his disturbed beauty sleep, in a seal basket.

“He was released in a safe, quieter place.”

According to local reports, the guests accidentally left their beachfront door open when popping out for the evening – giving the perfect opportunity for the seal to jump in for a quick snooze.

The animal rescue group say that grey seals are commonly known to take naps in odd places; though this is a new place to add to the books.

In another post, by the hotel, there is a strong reminder to take precautions when approaching a seal.

Despite their cute looks, they are known to bite.

“HELP there’s a seal in my beach room,” they wrote.

“This is not a comment we hear often, but last night it was.

“We were just watching for a while, but it’s possible. Young seals often rest on the beach in the spring.

“This seal also needed a break, was curious, and came to our neighbourhood for a while.

“Luckily the seal is doing well now; he was put back into the sea […]and can now move on.

“But what to do if you encounter a seal? Keep your distance above all.

“No matter how cute they look, seals can bite.

“It is important that they do not experience unnecessary stress.

“Don’t try to guide them back to the water either, because they are not lying on the beach for nothing.”

It’s advised that a distance of at least 98ft should be kept and that those with dogs should keep them on a lead, before phoning a local animal welfare team.
