A puppy who was brutally dumped in a bin has tugged at people’s heartstrings – with people donating thousands to help the pooch.

The 12-week old French Bulldog, named Oscar, was abandoned by his breeder due to his poor health in what has been called the “saddest rescue” ever.

The dog was found after a tip-off from a caller to Mac’s Mission, a non-profit, telling them the owner had “thrown” the pup away.

Oscar, who has a ventricular septal defect, severe pulmonic stenosis, high grade heart murmur and severe upper respiratory function, is now being looked after by the rescue.

Over £18,600 has been raised for the French bulldog so far.

“Oscar is one of our newest and probably saddest rescues who was thrown away in a trash can by his breeder,” an extract of a Facebook post reads.

“He came to us in horrible shape and barely alive.”

Despite an initially rough start and hopeless prognosis, Oscar is responding to medical care but is far from out of the woods, as reported by What’s The Jam.

“Despite all of our efforts, we are DROWNING,” the rescue said in an extract of a Facebook post.

“To put it bluntly, there just isn’t enough donations coming in to sustain our outrageous medical bills.

“We are committed to do everything we possibly can to stay open.

“We made that promise to Mac years ago and we intend to keep it!

“We hate to ask even more from you but we need your help big time.

“Oscar needs your help.”

An echocardiogram showed that Oscar’s heart valve, which should be the size of a regular soda straw is actually like a small coffee straw.

Sadly, it has also been found that the pup has a hole in his heart.

He may require surgery.

In another post, the rescue added: “Taking on too many heart cases last year nearly sunk our entire rescue because of the cost of heart puppies.

“Heart cases are expensive as heck and scary because in many cases for us the technology isn’t there to fix the defects we find. or like the last two they have more than one defect at a time which is more complicated.

“Right now we have two months to let Oscar grow and get stronger and hope all hopes we can get him fixed up!”

So far, the fundraiser has raised approximately £18,600, ($23,233) with the organisation promising to keep people updated on Oscar’s progress.

The funds are not only for Oscar but for all animals in the charity’s care.
