A diver experienced a “magical” moment after coming across a cluster of devil rays migrating.

Emily Marzilli was out freediving when she noticed a shadow underneath the surface.

The 25-year-old, originally from Canada, couldn’t believe it when she realised what it really was.

“There’s a very unique feeling that passes over you that is both awe-like, like the first time you climb a mountain and see the magnificent view.

“It is also bittersweet because you know this is something you might experience only a couple of times in your life.

“It was definitely a core memory.

“At the same time, I also felt very proud and happy because I was in the middle of a course with beginner free-divers.

“To be able to share one of the most incredible moments underwater with people who are just being introduced to this sport; it’s very humbling to be a part of their experience.”

Emily was off the Gulf of California at the time, by La Ventana in Mexico, where she lives.

Every year, tens of thousands of mobula rays visit the coastlines of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific side of the Baja California peninsula.

She feels very lucky to have had the chance to experience such a powerful scene.

She said: “I’d repeat this moment in a heartbeat.”

“It’s one of those experiences that you never truly get sick of.

“No experience is ever the same, it’s all chance – the water conditions, the visibility, the quantity of rays and the people you’re with!”

Viewers are in awe and have taken to the comment section to share their thoughts.

Athena said: “It’s so beautiful. We don’t deserve the Earth we have inherited…..”
