A pair of rabbits named after Wimbledon icons Serena and Venus Williams are courting new owners.

The adorable duo were born during last year’s prestigious tennis event which inspired their fitting names.

The pair’s mum, Celeste, was found living in an empty dog crate while pregnant.

Shortly after being taken into care, she unexpectedly gave birth to the two bunnies.

The mother has now been rehomed and the first year of life for the siblings has been spent searching for an owner to take them in, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Susie Hughes, branch manager at RSPCA Manchester and Salford, said: “These girls are the best of friends and take great pleasure in playing, napping and feasting together as a bonded pair should.

“They’re both very fond of their grub and will come running to the door of their pen as soon as they spot you heading in their direction.

“Food is definitely the way to their heart.

“To give them a change of scenery from the centre we moved them to a wonderful outdoor foster home where they are proving to be excellent lawn mowers.

“The ideal set up with new adopters will be a shed or a wendy house with a run or garden where they can have plenty of human company and somewhere dry to play.

“Pregnancy in rabbits isn’t always obvious.

“In fact, you may not realise that a rabbit is pregnant until just a day or two before they give birth, and they don’t always nest either, and that was the case with Celeste.

(Jam Press/RSPCA)

“Once she had finished raising her babies, she was offered a new home quite quickly, but it’s been a much longer wait for Venus and Serena.

“We appreciate that taking on two rabbits is a big commitment, as it is for any pet, but both of these girls are a joy to be around.

“We really hope they’ll get their chance with a new family very soon and we’d encourage anyone who is interested in offering them a new home to apply via our website.”

Celeste gave birth to the bunnies on 13 July 2024 after she was discovered in a property in the Greater Manchester area before being signed over to the RSPCA’s Manchester and Salford branch.
