A dog has found her forever home after spending 420 days at a shelter — the longest any pup has remained at the rescue.
Faya, a four-year-old mixed breed, has found her “best friend” in a new owner, Steve Macklin.
The news comes as a relief to the team at the Humane Society of Scott County who said that “overjoyed was an understatement”.

“It’s official… Faya, our longest resident, has been adopted after 420 days of living in the shelter!”, they added.
“To say our staff and volunteers were overjoyed is an understatement.
“We’ve given her so much love and care over the many months she was here and this is the moment we were all waiting for.
“She finally gets to sleep in a home of her own.
“We are so incredibly happy for her and her new best friend!”

Faya had patiently been living at the shelter in Davenport, Iowa.
During that time, she’d become a social media star with people eager to see the dog get her happy ending.
A video of her story has gone viral with over 17,000 views.

Faya and her new owner, Steve Macklin, posed together for their first photo before he took the gorgeous girl home for good.
And the internet is thrilled, as reported by What’s The Jam.
“This is wonderful! They both look so happy,” wrote Ashley.
“I can’t tell who is happier in this photo! Faya or her new dad”, said Tonya.
Teresa added: “Look at how happy she is, she knows she’s been saved. And the smile on that adopter’s face says it all, They will be a team. Thank you for adopting.”
“I beg your finest pardon! This is absolutely the cutest thing. They have the same smile!! These two were meant for each other. I hope they have the best life,” said Tabbytha.
The Humane Society of Scott County takes in over 2,500 animals on an annual basis.
They mostly focus on rescuing strays but will also assist with owner surrenders when they can.
Besides dogs, they also work to re-home cats and other small pets.
