A savvy thrifter has revealed how she found a luxury designer dress worth nearly £3,700 – for just £11.

Ruth Kornatz spotted the famous butterfly-print Carolina Herrera gown while browsing a local charity shop.

The 36-year-old stay-at-home mum paid just £11 ($14.99) for the dress, which originally retailed for a staggering £3,714 ($4,990).

“I was just in the right place at the right time,” Ruth, from Connecticut, US, told What’s The Jam.

“A rack had just been rolled out from the back room and the butterflies immediately caught my eye.

“I thought $14.99 was a good price until I saw the brand label and realised I had found something really special that had been priced far too low.”

Ruth, who has been thrifting for as long as she can remember, said she knew she had to buy the dress straight away.

She said: “There was no hesitation.

“I bought it immediately.”

The fashion find has since been sent to luxury resale platform The RealReal for authentication, although Ruth says she is already confident it is genuine.

She added: “I’ve never found anything like this before.

“I was totally shocked because normally high-end items are priced much higher and kept behind the glass case.”

Ruth tried the dress on when she got home but says it would need tailoring to fit her properly.

She has not worn it yet and is keeping it safely stored while she decides whether to sell it or keep it.

She said: “I’ve listed it for sale on one site, but I haven’t made my mind up yet.

“If it doesn’t sell, or I decide to keep it, it could be something I pass down to my daughter one day.

“Everyone was really excited because they know how much I love hunting for good thrift finds for my family.

“When I posted about the dress, I never expected the reaction it got, and it’s still continuing to go viral.”

Despite her incredible find, Ruth says she doesn’t thrift with the intention of making money.

She added: “I outfit my kids and myself in used clothing because I believe we already have enough textile waste.

“I just feel so lucky to have found such a unique and special item.”

Users flocked to the comments section to share their reactions.

One person said: “The way I would wear this just to vacuum “
