A man in his fifties has revealed his secret to staying young – raving – and says he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Mark Flynn has been raving for as long as he can remember, with his favourite years being 1988 and 1989.

And now Mark, from Hull, is still dancing.

He travels each weekend to raves across the UK, meeting up with people he has known for decades and often spending hundreds.

“I’ll keep attending these as long as my body can take it,” Mark, a plumber, told What’s The Jam.

“If it wasn’t for raves, I’d probably be bored, sat at home, getting older.

“It costs me £200 for every Amnesia event, which includes the hotel, fuel, and ticket.

“It’s worth every penny.”

When he first found the scene he discovered the wonders of clubs, music bars, and open mic nights.

He said: “I started doing clubs in the late eighties.

“Then in 1990, I attended Amnesia House, the first legal rave company in the UK.

“Since then, I’ve never looked back.

“Some [other ravers] I met 30 years ago.

“We’ve found each other through the powers of the internet.

“There are around 25 of us who meet up for Amnesia House raves in Coventry every six months.

“They always put on a great show.

“They started doing them every six months in 2022, so since then I’ve had something to look forward to.”

Mark also attends raves in his hometown, but not every weekend.

He said: “I’ve done a few in town.

“But they are just not as good as the proper old-school vibe Amnesia puts on.”

Mark says his family and friends are all supportive of his passion.

He said: “They all know what I do and where I go.

“Sometimes friends tag along.

“My wife used to do the raves as well and always wants to come but it clashes with her work.”

Mark did stop raving for a couple of months to concentrate on his plumbing career.

But now he has no plans to slow down.

Mark said anyone thinking of partying should not let their age or self-consciousness stand in the way.

He added: “There are a lot of people who are sometimes too nervous to go alone.

“But I always say join sites and Facebook groups.

“Plus you can always meet up with my lot! The more the merrier.

“Make memories!”
