Identical twins are set to give birth at the same time after discovering they were both pregnant just a day apart.

Faye Shore and Alex Melia, both 30, are used to sharing everything, but they never imagined they’d be sharing a pregnancy date too.

The pair, who both work as primary school teachers, discovered they were expecting their first babies within just 24 hours of each other, and now, they share the same due date.

Alex and husband Tom, 29, were the first to find out she was pregnant and surprised her sister with a scan photo.

A few days later, Faye returned the favour with her husband, Matty, 30.

“It still feels surreal to think that our journeys began at almost the exact same time, Faye, from Liverpool, told What’s the Jam.

“When Alex found out, she surprised me with a beautiful box that had her pregnancy test and some photos inside.

“The next day, I decided to take a test myself and couldn’t believe it when I saw the result.

“A couple of days later, I told Alex my news.

“I gave her a box too, but this one was filled with little baby gifts, including a babygro that said ‘No.1 Cousin’.

“It was such a special and emotional moment for both of us.

“We were absolutely overjoyed.

“Going through it together has made the whole experience even more special.”

The timing was even more remarkable because both sisters had faced potential fertility challenges.

Earlier in the year, Alex was told she might need IVF after a scan showed a low follicle count, while Faye has PCOS, which can make conception more difficult.

Faye said: “It felt like such a miracle, especially because earlier in the year Alex had been told she might need IVF after a scan showed her ovarian follicles were small, and I have PCOS, which can also make conception more difficult.

“So when we found out we were both pregnant naturally, and at the same time, we were in shock but completely over the moon.”

Initially, their due dates were just six days apart — Alex on November 7 and Faye on November 13.

But after both were diagnosed with gestational diabetes, their doctors recommended early inductions.

Alex is set to be induced on October 31, while Faye plans to go in the following day, November 1, meaning there’s still every chance their babies could share a birthday.

Faye said: “When we shared our news, everyone was so surprised and delighted.

“They couldn’t believe we were both expecting at the same time, especially since these are our first pregnancies.

“We told our families separately so that we could each have our own special moment with our husbands, and everyone was overjoyed for us.

“It’s been lovely to have so much support and excitement around us.”

Despite their identical looks and shared careers, the sisters say they’ve always had their own identities.

The pair are documenting their pregnancy journey on their TikTok page, @‌wearethepregnanttwins.

Faye added: “We’ve always been close and share a lot of the same interests, but we’re also our own people.

“We’ve grown up doing lots together, yet we each have our own independence and personalities.

“We’ve definitely always been quite in sync, but this pregnancy timing is something we never could have planned.

“Once we were both married and had turned 30, we each felt ready to start trying for a baby, and by pure coincidence, it happened for us at the same time.

“It’s something really special that we’ll never forget.

“We’re quite similar in many ways.

“We both love country music and Taylor Swift, but we also balance each other out.

“We each bring our own strengths and support one another in everything we do.

“Becoming mothers for the first time is already such a meaningful experience, and to be doing it side by side makes it even more special.

“We know it’s something we’ll always remember and cherish.”
