A man has left social media users horrified after revealing he stayed in an underwater hotel room.
Shaun Stanley, 44, visited the Manta Resort on Pemba Island, Tanzania, to experience the incredible room, paying $1,100 for the night.
The room is accessed by a tunnel and steps down four metres below the ocean.
He filmed his stay, with the video going viral on Instagram with more than eight million views – but not everyone has been impressed by the “claustrophobic” room.

“Initially I was a bit worried I would get bored being there for so long, but in the end, I wish I had more time as it was such an amazing experience,” Shaun, a safari owner from Cape Town, South Africa, told What’sTheJam.com.

“I have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing safari lodges, beach hotels, and private islands through my work, but for me, the Underwater Room was one of the ‘wow’ experiences.“
I am not sure there is anything like this anywhere else on earth, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who wishes to try something completely unique!”
Shaun pre-booked the room as an additional experience at the resort.

He said: “I was worried I would be claustrophobic sleeping in the room underwater, but again because the experience is so amazing, you very quickly forget about any worries!”
The room boasts multiple large windows on each wall so you can watch the marine life swim around you.
Shaun said: “I saw some dolphins swim past around sunset time, but that was from the main deck and about 50 meters away.

“From the underwater room, I saw lots of tropical fish that live around the floating room, using it for shelter as if it was part of the reef.
“At night when I turned the underwater lights on, bigger fish came to feed on the smaller ones
.“I even got to see some turtles and octopuses.
“The floating room is secured to the bottom of the ocean floor, making it very sturdy.
“You hardly notice any movement!”
In the video shared on Instagram, Shaun films the above-water part of the room.
Above the water, there is a shower, sofa area, deck, door to the stairs down below, and ladder to a roof terrace.
But downstairs is the real showstopper, with incredible views of the fish.
The Instagram post garnered over 335,000 likes and thousands of comments – with viewers divided on the experience.

But other viewers were more keen on trying it out themselves.
