A British holidaymaker has described the daily sunbed scramble at a Spanish hotel as “absolute carnage”.

Kirsty Sarbutts was staying at the Ponient Dorada Palace, Salou, for seven nights when she witnessed more than 50 holidaymakers queuing from 8am for the doors to open at 9am.

The 38-year-old said the situation quickly descended into chaos each morning, with guests allegedly stopping others from passing before sprinting to secure their preferred sunbeds.

Kirsty, who was on holiday with her husband Hussain, 48, even claims one man fell over during the rush.

“It was embarrassing to watch,” Kirsty, from Manchester, told Whats The Jam.

“It happened every morning.

“There were fully grown adults stopping other people passing at the doors.

“They were all running for sunbeds.

“One man fell over.

“It was absolute carnage.

“We saw a woman send her child to the front once the door opens to get a certain sunbed which caused other adults to intervene as they weren’t happy about queuing for an hour.”

Kirsty said she only managed to secure a sunbed once during their entire seven-night stay and that was late in the afternoon.

She said they preferred to take their time over breakfast rather than rushing to the pool first thing in the morning, meaning they often had to make do with plastic chairs.

Kirsty said: “We won’t be returning to this hotel.

“Staff didn’t intervene at all.

“There were adults arguing for sunbeds throughout the day due to people removing towels on beds that had been left unoccupied all day.

“The only way to calm this situation would be the hotels allocating beds to rooms.

“It’s the only fair way around these situations.”

Kirsty shared a clip, which was filmed on 26 July, of the carnage on social media and it has racked up more than 127,000 views.

One commenter said: “They’ll race for sun beds but won’t come down to use them until 1pm, takes away from others who want to use them in the morning.”

Another person added: “I hope this holiday never finds me.”

Someone else said: “The Brits are so bad for this now.”

A fourth person said: “Just like kids being let out at break time.”

Another commenter added: “This is why I love adults only hotels.”
