A group of Brits have come up with an ingenius way to avoid roaming charges on their holiday – using £5 walkie-talkies to communicate between bars.
The holidaymakers flew out for just £22.99, but realised their phone data would cost more than the flights if they paid roaming charges for their ten-day trip, as reported by What’s The Jam
So instead of splashing out on mobile data, they headed to a shop and bought a pair of walkie-talkies for the equivalent to £5.

The gadgets have a two-mile range, meaning the group can stay in touch while moving between the bars in Benidorm where they were holidaying.
The holidaymakers said their prank videos mean people often think they’re joking when they see them chatting through the radios.
But they reckon the bargain buy could save them money every time they return to Spain.

One of the group said: “So we went to Benidorm to do our pranks.
“Our flights out there was £22.99.

“So the roaming was more than the flight.
“The price of data roaming is £2.72 a day. We went for 10 days.
“So instead of paying the roaming charges we decided to buy some walkie talkies for 6 euro.

“They had a 2 mile radius.”
The idea has already sparked plenty of interest, with the holidaymakers saying they have received hundreds of comments asking where they bought them.
They said the walkie-talkies came from a cheap shop in Benidorm.
The pair even put the radios to the test while enjoying a drink, with Grumet at Uncle Ron’s Bar while Darren was around 600 yards away.
Uncle Ron’s Bar was described as the only bar in Europe where you can get a pint of lager or a glass of wine for one euro.
But the plan has hit one small snag – the walkie-talkie etiquette.
Some viewers were left fuming because one of the holidaymakers failed to say “over” after speaking.
Grumet’s video was viewed over 1.5m times, with 116,000 likes, and 709 comments.
One person said: “This is genius I WILL be doing this. Over and out.”

Another person said: “I work at a hotel reception and one day a couple of friends mixed in our signal and it was HILARIOUS. They didn’t know what was happening.”
One user commented: “You never said over….. over.”
Another person said: “Sitrep required – have you obtained two pints at the nearest bar?”
One user added: “Oh yeah, patrolling the streets of Benidorm you are. Proper lads, get in boys.”

The latest stunt adds to the group’s previous Benidorm exploits.
In 2025, one of their antics involved a Brit hilariously claiming to have been held in a Spanish prison after getting into trouble during a holiday.
Now they appear to have found another way to make their trips to the Spanish resort a little more entertaining – and potentially a lot cheaper.
