A British travel influencer has flown over 900 miles to buy olive oil in Italy and prove that the flight and product combined is cheaper than the UK’s product alone.

But his “hack” doesn’t exactly go to plan.

Rob Adcock often hits the headlines for his tips and advice on how to save money while travelling.

The presenter, who hails from Stoke-on-Trent, previously shared how to take 20kg of luggage onboard a Ryanair flight for free.

Although Rob’s so-called hack technically worked, he ran into a major issue on the way home, reports What’s The Jam.

In the clip, which has racked up 86,000 views, Rob began by going into his local supermarket, where a two-litre tin of extra virgin olive oil costs £19.

He noted that the price tag is “proper expensive” before putting his experiment to the test.

Rob searched on Skyscanner for flights from London to Milan, which cost him just £14.

There’s a discount supermarket right next to Bergamo airport.

After landing, Rob popped into the store for three litres of Bertolli olive oil for £15.72 or £5.09 per litre.

In the UK, the equivalent amount would cost £55.75.

Rob proceeded to load up enough to fit into a 10kg bag, stocking up on seven litres for just £35.63.

He said: “Admit it, we’re actual geniuses…nearly.”

However, unfortunately, according to Ryanair’s travel rules, only one litre of edible oil is allowed per person.

Sadly, Rob was left with no other choice than to chuck six litres away.

While the experiment didn’t go to plan, Rob feels he did prove his point.

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions.

Maggie said: “Noooo…lol you were doing so well, I’d nearly booked my plane ticket.”

“These are the experiments I love to see,” Nicole added.
