In one clip of his travels, Tom is seen approaching an elderly woman outside her home to ask for water.
He explains that he is “very thirsty” from his hiking that day.
She hands him a bottle of water and says “Use as much as you want”.
He then fills his empty juice carton.
While pouring, she asks him if he is English and Tom replies: “Yes, I’m English, how did you know?”

The Abuela – Spanish for gran – tells him that she could tell from his accent.
She then introduces herself as Isidora and the pair bids farewell to each other.
In a follow-up video, viewed 263,000 times, Tom said: “I am speaking to every abuela I see until one of them adopts me.”

Tom, of Birmingham, greets one OAP as she sweeps her driveway in a village outside Salamanca, as reported by What’s The Jam.
She informs him that she is “barriendo” – meaning sweeping – a word he is unfamiliar with.
He says: “It’s that I’m English and I don’t understand what ‘barriendo’ means.”
The woman explains that she’s sweeping leaves from the front of her house.
He then asks if she’s from the local area or a different part of Spain and she replies that she has lived there her whole life.
Tom walks away and says to the camera: “She’s so precious.”
However, he laments: “No adoption this time.”
One fan commented: “Telling an abuela that you’re thirsty or hungry is a very dangerous thing!”
Lidia wrote: “If you’d stayed five minutes longer, she would have made you 10 different meals with 10 desserts.”
Sonia said: “The best thing that can happen to you in life is to be adopted by a Spanish grandmother.”
Rosanna remarked: “When you eventually get adopted, you will eat delicious croquettes that only ‘las abuelas’ make!”
Juanita commented: “Grandma Isidora will be talking about her English visitor with great joy for the next two months.”
