A woman has revealed the mortifying moment a container of boiled eggs “exploded” mid-flight, filling part of the cabin with a foul smell.
Jenny Long had picked up the protein-packed snack at the airport before boarding a Delta flight from Edinburgh to Boston.
But the 45-year-old was left horrified when the pressurised container burst open as she tried to remove the lid around an hour after lunch service.

“It made an audible sound when it exploded and moisture from inside the container flew onto my face,” Jenny, a project manager from Atlanta, Georgia, US, told Whats The Jam.
“That’s when I could smell it.
“It was a solid eight out of 10.
“I was panicked and horrified.
“I am the type of person who goes out of my way to make sure others are comfortable, so I was mortified that I was the idiot on the plane.

“But the humour in the situation didn’t escape me.
“You have to find the humour in life wherever you can.”
The incident was caught on video by her friend, who started filming as Jenny desperately tried to contain the smell.

She said: “My first thought was, ‘Oh my gosh, how am I going to get rid of this and FAST?!'”
Jenny admitted she hadn’t considered that boiled eggs might smell during a flight.
She said: “I grabbed several snacks at the airport because I thought they would be a great, healthy snack packed with protein.
“I eat boiled eggs at home all the time and they never smell, so I didn’t even think about them smelling bad.”
Jenny rushed to the aircraft bathroom, where she disposed of the eggs.
She said: “Once I got to the bathroom, I flushed the eggs down the toilet, washed out the container and threw it away.”
Thankfully, the smell only lingered for a few minutes.
Jenny added: “A lot of people around me were asleep, thankfully.
“The only reaction I saw was one guy behind me who laughed when I got back to my seat.
“I am so sorry to the other passengers on the plane.
“I promise I’m not the type of person to heat up fish in a company microwave.
“I blame perimenopause for the lapse in judgement.”
