A doctor, who graduated from Harvard University, has revealed that most people are blowing their noses wrong – and the dangers this has on our bodies.

Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist, shares his experience and knowledge with his 501,000 followers on TikTok (@doctorsethimd).

He recently issued an urgent PSA revealing how “doom scrolling” is “ruining” our brains.

Now, the 42-year-old has shared that most people are, in fact, blowing their noses wrong.

And it actually makes the method completely ineffective – and dangerous, reports What’s The Jam.

In the clip, which has racked up 7,600 views and over a hundred likes, he reveals how to blow your nose the correct way.

“You’ve been blowing your nose wrong your entire life, here’s how to fix it,” the doctor, from California, US, says.

“Blowing through both nostrils at once creates super high pressure, up to 15 times more than sneezing.”

Dr Sethi explains this pressure actually sends mucus backwards into the sinuses.

To blow your nose the correct way, he says to begin with pressing one nostril closed.

Then gently blow through the other and repeat on the opposite side.

He continues: “We make about a quart of mucus a day and a third of it can get launched back up if you blow too hard.

“This increases your risks of nosebleeds, sinus infections and in rare cases, people have even fractured their eye sockets.”

Dr Sethi says the best time to blow your nose is in the shower, as the humidity loosens up the mucus.
