A man who wasn’t worried travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery says getting a beard transplant in Turkey was the best decision he’s ever made.

Taylor Smith had always dreamed of having a thick, even beard – but years of patchy growth left him feeling insecure and fed up.

After trying oils, rollers and supplements with no luck, the 29-year-old finally decided to take the plunge and fly to Istanbul for the procedure.

The salesman, from Margate, Kent, booked himself in for a direct hair implantation (DHI) beard transplant at a clinic called Elithair.

The treatment set him back £2,000 back in August and took most of the day to complete, but Taylor says the results have completely transformed his confidence – and his dating life.

Taylor said he wasn’t concerned about going to Turkey, having had gastric sleeve surgery there before.

He said reviews for the clinic were “fantastic”, leaving him feeling confident about the choice despite stereotypes of travelling abroad for treatment.

“You only really hear the horror stories from people who pick the cheapest option without looking into it properly,” he told What’s The Jam.

“I wasn’t really worried about going to Turkey. I’d had surgery there before and the reviews for the clinic were fantastic, so I felt confident about it.

“As long as you do your research on the clinic and check their work, it’s completely fine.”

Before the surgery, Taylor admits he used to feel self-conscious about the gaps in his facial hair, often trying to hide the patches.

But within just weeks of the procedure, the swelling had gone down and after a few months his new beard had fully grown in – with results he describes as unbelievable.

Since then, Taylor says his confidence has “gone through the roof”.

He said: “I’ve always wanted a full, even beard but struggled with patchy growth for years. It knocked my confidence, and after trying everything else, I decided to go for the transplant.

“I could grow some facial hair, but it never fully connected and it really used to bother me.

“It definitely affected me – I used to feel self-conscious and always tried to cover the patches.

“I tried beard oils, rollers, and supplements, but none of them gave me lasting results. The transplant felt like the only real, permanent fix.

“This is one of the best decisions I’ve made – it’s completely transformed how I feel about myself.”

Friends, clients and even strangers have noticed the change too, with many complimenting his new look.

He’s also noticed a big boost in his dating life, saying he feels far more confident walking into any social situation.

He said: “Straight away I felt excited and relieved. Even though there was some swelling and redness, I could already see the new beard shape coming through.

“People notice it straight away and compliment it all the time – even clients and strangers.

“I feel more confident walking into any situation now – including dating.

“The biggest change has been my boost in confidence. It’s not just about the beard – it’s about feeling like the best version of yourself.”
