A doctor who graduated from Harvard University has revealed which type of superfood to eat daily to “scrub” the gut clean.
Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist, often shares his advice and expertise with his 1.3m followers on Instagram (@doctor.sethi).
The 42-year-old previously revealed which common product to avoid cleaning the ears with, otherwise there’s a high-risk of total hearing loss.

Now, the doctor, from California, US, has divulged which superfood to eat daily to “scrub the gut clean”, reports What’s The Jam.
“These three seeds clean your gut like a brush,” he said in a clip which has racked up 184,000 views and over 3,000 likes.
First up: chia seeds.
He said: “It’s packed with soluble fibre and forms a gel when soaked.

“And this gel does three things.

“It slows down sugar absorption and it feeds your gut microbiome.
“It helps you stay regular – meaning it helps you poo better.”
Dr Sethi shares one piece of advice, though; never eat them dry.

He advises soaking them for at least 15 to 20 minutes, or, ideally, overnight.
For his breakfast, he has two tablespoons of chia seeds mixed with almond milk or yogurt, adding berries on top.
Next up: flax seeds.
He explained: “These are tiny, but powerful.
“They are rich in omega 3s, especially ALA and these are anti-inflammatory.
“But there is a catch.
“Your body cannot absorb much from whole flax seeds, you’ve got to grind them.
“Ground flax seeds help with bloating, hormone balance and even cholesterol management.
“I use a tablespoon of ground flax seeds in my smoothie or oatmeal three to four times a week.”
And finally: basil seeds.
Dr Sethi added: “These look like chia seeds, but these are even cooler.
“They expand faster, have similar soluble fibre benefits and are often used in Ayurvedic medicine for digestion.
“I like to consume these along with my chia seeds in oatmeal, almond milk or almond yoghurt.”
