Kajagoogoo star Nick Beggs is desperate to get his old bass guitar back after spotting it up for sale for £15,000.

The 80s pop legend joked he is risking a divorce from wife Ann in his pursuit of it because she wants a new kitchen instead.

The now 62-year-old bought the Wal Pro2E – which he says is like an ex-girlfriend – second hand 43 years ago.

He played it on the band’s 1983 hit Too Shy, on two albums and on world tours.

But the bass got sold when Kajagoogoo disbanded two years later.

But Nick has now spotted the instrument is up for sale for £14,995.

He said he has sleepless nights thinking about it.

Nick is willing to sell two of his other guitars – a Grey 8 string forte Spector Bass and a Burgundy 5 string fretless Korean Spector 5 – for £5,000 each.

The ex-pop star said he will even sign them for fans.

But he is so hellbent he has also set up a GoFundMe to raise £10,000, as reported on What’s The Jam.

Fans have already donated over £3,400 and he has promised them he will release a new album if he gets to the target.

Nick said: “I bought this Wal bass, second hand, in 1981.

“I used it on a lot of the records including Too Shy.

“I took it with me around the world and then I played in on the rest of the album and then I played it on the next album.

“Eventually, the band disbanded as most bands do and the instrument being a company asset was sold.

“I just wanted rid of everything at that time because there were a lot of bad memories.”

But he added: “Now spool forward, 40 years odd and the base is now worth £15,000 and is up for sale.

“I’ve been trying to put it behind me and forget about it.

“But when I’m asleep I have dreams about it.

“It’s like an old girlfriend. An unrequited love.

“And I wondered what it might be like if we got back together.

“So I asked my wife if she’d mind me spending £15,000 on one of my old girlfriends.

“And she said ‘F*ck off if you think you’re getting a new base before I get a new kitchen’.

“So I figured how about if I sell a couple of my old instruments, instruments which I really love and that do have value.

“That way I could probably rekindle my old first love and not end up getting divorced.

“If you are interested in either of these instruments you could come to my house, I’ll sign them, I’ll even sign your wife.”

His old Wal Pro2E is being sold by The Bass Gallery.

It was also used by Black Sabbath.

The listing reads: “We are proud to present this Wal Pro2E, which was played on the No.1 Kajagoogoo hit, ‘Too Shy’ and also on the Black Sabbath song ‘Headless Cross’, played by the legendary Laurence Cottle.”

The GoFundMe listing reads: “A lot of you kind people have offered to help me get my bass back.

“So with that I present to you my GoFundMe page, so I don’t have to pay for my own provenance.

“Pay as little or as much as you like. I am so very appreciative for your help.

“When I get it back, I will release an album for you on BandCamp using the bass.”

Fan Lee Austin said: “Hilarious, but I feel your pain.

“I had a Fender Telecaster Signature and I’ve regretted selling it every day for the last 20 years.”

Yet Ian Knight added: “If you want that bass because it had such a great sound, why not seek out another identical one.

“And have the satisfaction of not having to pay a self-inflicted premium for it.

“And your wife maybe gets a kitchen too.”

Dan Ranger said: “Never go back to an old girlfriend.

“Especially after 40 years.”
