Elvis Presley’s iconic guitar is expected to sell for up to £20,000 ($25,000 USD) at auction.

The Martin & Co. D-35 acoustic was manufactured in 1972 and was likely acquired by the King of Rock and Roll shortly afterwards.

Elvis took to the stage with the Martin in his hands in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1976.

He also used the guitar for his famous run in Las Vegas that December, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The instrument shows the standard markings and features of the model in 1972, including the easily identifiable three-piece rosewood back, which can be seen through the sound hole in many of Elvis’s concert photos.

It features a blonde solid spruce top, solid mahogany neck with 20-fret ebony fingerboard, rosewood sides and three-piece back, ebony bridge, white binding and a black pick guard.

The guitar is in a glass display case along with three photos of Elvis.

The centre photo appears to be of him playing the D-35 at one of his Las Vegas shows in December 1976.

The instrument comes encased with a letter of provenance and certificate of authenticity.

With a huge asking price of between approximately £11,600-£20,000 ($15,000-$25,000), it is clear that items once owned by Elvis remain extremely desirable and collectible to this day.
