Who doesn’t love horses? If they were smaller, we bet that they would be a more popular pet option than dogs. These are lovely and extremely emotional animals. They create a special bond with the owner, and on top of that, they like to be ridden, so you get to explore the outdoors from a different perspective.

Then we have horse racing. A sport that involves horses, and it is completely bonkers. The adrenaline rush goes through the roof, and everyone is dressed up like they’re going to a wedding, and everyone is trying to pick the winning horse.

So, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see big celebrities completely obsessed with horse racing. Yes, it is a big niche sport and quite unexpected for celebrities, but they are also suckers for an adrenaline rush, especially when it comes to prestigious sports like this.

Not just celebrities showing up at the Kentucky Derby in a nice hat, taking photos, and leaving before their shoes get muddy. We’re talking about people who owned horses, invested in stables, followed the sport seriously, or became part of racing culture in a real way.

Bobby Flay

Bobby Flay is definitely one of the easiest examples because his connection to horse racing is pure and instantly noticeable.

Yes, we all know him as a chef, a TV personality, and a person who seems physically unable to stay away from the grill. But Fray has also been a serious Thoroughbred owner and breeder for years. We’re taking it seriously, like millions-of-dollars-seriously, not like a side passion.

He has owned Grade 1 winners and has been involved at the highest level of the sport. He even won multiple Breeders’ Cup races as well as the Belmont Stakes in 2022. This year, the competition for the Belmont Stakes is already brewing hot, and who knows, maybe he will appear again in this incredible race.

Flay also continues to appear around major racing events, including the 2026 Kentucky Derby, where People reported he attended with Brooke Williamson, Sophie Flay, and Antonia Lofaso.

Steven Spielberg Had a Derby Horse

This one cause surprise on people, but honestly, it kind of makes sense. Steven Spielberg, one of the biggest directors and filmmakers in Hollywood, the person behind Jaws, Jurassic Park, and E.T., is also a horse racing fan.

He co-owned Atswhatimtalknbout, which was a show business horse owned by a group of producers and executives from the movie industry, including Steven Spielberg. The horse finished fourth in the 2003 Kentucky Derby, and that’s quite a success. Even getting to the Kentucky Derby alone is a big achievement.

Spielberg’s link to horses also makes sense when you remember he directed War Horse, a film built almost entirely around the emotional power of a horse.

Spieblerg may not be a die-hard horse racing fan, but nobody invests in a horse if they don’t like the sport, right?

MC Hammer

This is one of the strangest racehorse owners in the entire history, for sure. We often hear athletes, directors, and business people purchasing a racehorse, but a rapper? Yeah, MC Hammer didn’t just have one racehorse but built an entire stable and business out of it.

Hammer owned Lite Light, which won the 1991 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs, as well as Dance Floor, which won the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Okay, but the story didn’t end well. These were his only two successful horses, and he quickly fell into deep financial troubles due to his unprofitable stable business, and later declared bankruptcy.

This proves that horse racing isn’t for all.

Queen Elizabeth II was probably the most famous racing fan on Earth.

This one may not be shocking, but it deserves a place because her love of horse racing was not some royal PR hobby.

Queen Elizabeth II was deeply involved in racing and breeding for most of her life. Saratoga Living noted that she had been an avid racing lover since her teenage years, and her horses won millions in purse money, including many victories at Royal Ascot.

For the Queen, it was a lifelong passion. She followed bloodlines, breeding, race performance, and the sport’s traditions in a way that went far beyond just attending major events.

Sir Alex Ferguson Turned Competition Into a Stable Hobby

If anyone was going to get into horse racing after a career in football, Sir Alex Ferguson.

The man spent decades managing pressure, talent, timing, and competition at Manchester United. Horse racing is different, of course, but some of the same instincts apply. You’re still dealing with performance, preparation, and the ability to handle unpredictable outcomes without losing your mind.

Ferguson has owned several racehorses and had major success with Rock of Gibraltar, who won more than £1 million and became one of the best-known horses connected to a celebrity owner.

Travis Kelce Is Part of the Newer Celebrity Racing Wave

The newer wave of celebrity racing ownership looks a little different.

It’s less “one famous person owns a giant stable,” and more “famous people join ownership groups.” That model lowers the barrier and makes racing more accessible to celebrities who want involvement without managing the whole operation themselves.

Some reports even showed Travis Kelce was part of horse racing ownership groups. They’re not confirmed, but his name has definitely appeared alongside many horse racing events for a reason. Both he and Taylor Swift were rumored to have an ownership stake in a horse participating in the Kentucky Derby.

Final Thoughts

Horse racing is truly unique because celebrities are not just fans, but they actively participate in the sport. And there is no sport like horse racing.

If you’re a celebrity, you cannot go to an NBA match and buy a stake in a team, but you can buy your racehorse and appear in big events, which is probably why most of them love the sport.
