A mum is urging parents to teach their children a “life-saving” lesson after she unexpectedly fell unconscious – with her daughter alerting emergency services.

Pagan Mitchell, 27, was enjoying spending a cosy day in with her three children; Primrose, five, Forrest, two and Franklin, one.

But then, the mum felt a sharp pain in her head and suddenly fell unconscious at the top of the stairs.

As the eldest in charge, little Primrose took matters in her own hands – using Pagan’s phone to alert her stepdad, Tay, 26, as well as phone 999.

And the quick thinking act saved her mum’s life.

“It was an incredibly dangerous situation to be in,” the stay-at-home mum, from Camborne, told What’s The Jam.

“I was the only adult present in the house with three small children and not to mention the fact I was only moments away from falling unconscious while on the stairs.

“When I woke up, there was an ambulance crew all around me trying to help me regain consciousness.

“I was confused as to who alerted them, but I was totally shocked when I found out it was Primrose.

“She knew it would be her alone with her two little brothers for a few hours until her stepdad could get home from work.

“She didn’t just save me, she saved herself and them, too.”

Pagan, who has suffered from intense migraines over the years, has never fallen unconscious from one of them before.

But just in case, she had taught the five-year-old what to do in case of an emergency.

When the scenario occurred on 5 April 2024, the lesson was put to good use – and Pagan says it’s urgent for parents to teach their plucky tots as well.

She added: “It could be a matter of life or death.

“This has been the first time she’s had to call for an emergency, but at least she knew how to do it.

“999 is saved in my phone as ‘police-fire-ambulance’ as this is easy for her to understand what it’s used for.

“She also knows my passcode, as well as my date of birth and our address to easily alert them of all the information needed.

“Primrose put me in the recovery position, too, and held my hand while we waited for help.

“Although she was scared, she talked herself through it to remain calm.

“When I found this out, I was overwhelmed with feeling so proud of my little girl.

“It’s so important to teach all children this, even if you don’t have a medical condition.

“I was hoping we would never have to use this, but unfortunately, we did.

“It doesn’t take much and it could save a life.”
