Morrisons has announced a major new feature will be rolled out across around 500 supermarkets following a successful trial.

The supermarket chain is expanding its partnership with parcel locker firm Quadient to install Parcel Pending lockers at its larger stores across the UK.

The rollout will allow customers to collect and return parcels while doing their weekly shop, offering a more convenient alternative to waiting at home for deliveries.

Installation work began in June, with the first 125 supermarkets already receiving the lockers before they are expanded across Morrisons’ estate of around 500 larger stores in the coming months.

The move follows the success of Parcel Pending lockers at Morrisons Daily convenience stores, where the service was first introduced as part of a partnership announced last year, as reported by What’s The Jam.

The lockers provide secure self-service parcel collection and returns for multiple delivery companies, allowing shoppers to manage online orders from different retailers in one place.

As well as parcel collections and returns, the open-network lockers can also be used for services including click-and-collect orders, prescription collections, key exchanges and spare parts retrieval.

The expansion comes as demand for out-of-home delivery continues to grow, with many shoppers looking for more flexible ways to receive parcels.

Katia Bourgeais-Crémel, executive vice president of Parcel Locker Solutions Europe at Quadient, said: “The expansion of our partnership with Morrisons, one of the UK’s largest and trusted supermarket brands, reflects a shared vision of making everyday services more accessible for consumers.

“By extending our open locker network across Morrisons supermarkets, we are helping consumers collect and return parcels as part of their normal routines, while providing retailers and carriers with a scale efficient delivery infrastructure.

“Together, we’re making out-of-home delivery more convenient and accessible across communities.”

John Parry, Morrisons’ head of popular and useful services, added: “At Morrisons, we are committed to providing services that make life easier for our customers and strengthen the role our stores play within local communities.

“Following the success of our Morrisons Daily partnership, expanding Quadient lockers into our supermarket estate is a natural next step.

“This partnership enables us to offer customers greater flexibility and convenience while enhancing the range of useful services available through our stores.”

Quadient said the initiative is intended to help reduce missed deliveries by allowing customers to collect and return parcels during their normal shopping trips, while also supporting more efficient last-mile delivery operations.
