Visitors to a beauty spot were forced to remain in their cars after witnessing a biblical swarm of mosquitoes.
Footage filmed from inside a vehicle shows countless blood-sucking gnats turning the entire sky grainy.
The visitors were met with nightmarish scenes after travelling to Lake Shchuchye in Russia’s Buryatia region last week.

They remained stuck in their cars and eventually had to turn back without being able to relax on the lakeshore.
The high level of mosquito activity in the region is ongoing and is expected to last until sometime next week, according to entomologists.
Authorities have been advising residents and tourists to stock up on repellents and protective clothing.
In May, a case of dirofilariasis – a parasitic disease transmitted through mosquito bites – was recorded in Russia’s Kursk region.
The parasite can only be removed surgically, as it is capable of moving beneath the skin at a rate of up to 10–30cm per day.

Mosquitoes typically become infected by feeding on infected dogs and cats, and more rarely on wild animals.
Isolated cases of the infection are recorded in Russia every year, as reported by Whats The Jam.
One local commented: “This year there are a lot of mosquitoes everywhere, but I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
