A man has shared footage of the incredible moment ‘thousands’ of walruses swarmed around his boat.
Vadim Makhorov was stunned when he spotted the growing number of mammals – which he believes were largely male – while out on the water.
The 36-year-old quickly started filming the bizarre scene, which has gone viral on Instagram, garnering over 134,000 views.

In the clip, hordes of walruses can be seen approaching the two dinghy boats, where Vadim and a group of tourists were visiting to photograph the island.
One person commented: “Wow that’s a lot of walrus!”

Another user added: “What well behaved boys!”
Another viewer wrote: “Well, they are not afraid of people at all! They are curious.”
Someone else added: “Beautiful and dangerous at the same time.”

Another user said: “Very scary, but very beautiful.”

Walruses typically gather due to migration patterns as the seasons change, marking the transition from summer into winter.
“I’ve never seen so many,” Vadim, a photographer, told What’s The Jam.

“They turned out to be very well-behaved and didn’t even try to attack our inflatable boat.
“Imagine, such large animals – up to 4 meters long and weighing up to 1.5 tons – are clumsy on land, but fast and agile in the water!
“No aggression was felt from them, only curiosity, because it’s not often someone visits them.
“The entire southern coastline of the island is occupied by walruses.”
The clip was filmed on Ratmanov Island, located on the Bering Straight, right on the sea border between Russia and the United States, late last month (October).
