A wildlife rescuer dropped everything to save a tiny hedgehog stuck in a garden fence.

The dramatic rescue unfolded on Tuesday (14 October) after a distraught woman spotted the small creature wedged between two wooden slats right next to her front door.

“We had an emergency call from a lady who was really upset,” the rescuer, from Burntisland Hedgehog Haven in Dunfermline, Scotland, wrote on Facebook.

“She’d found a wee hedgehog stuck fast in her fence and didn’t know what to do.”

When they arrived, the little hedgehog was still alive but cold, frightened, and completely stuck.

The rescuer said: “There was no way he was coming out without getting injured.

“So the only option was to saw the fence slat as carefully as possible without hurting him.”

After some delicate work, the hedgehog was freed.

The wildlife lover added: “He was completely half wedged in, poor wee soul.

“But once we got him out, we rushed him straight to intensive care.”

The tiny creature was slowly warmed up and monitored as the indentation on his back began to fade.

The Good Samaritan said: “After a couple of hours, he was back on his feet – still a bit wobbly but moving around.

“Fingers crossed he can overcome his awful ordeal.

“We’ll do everything we can to help him recover.

“He’s a wee fighter.”

The team plans to keep the hedgehog under observation until he’s strong enough to return to the wild, as reported by What’s The Jam.

And the heartwarming rescue earned plenty of praise online.

One person said: “Aww good job saving the wee soul. He so cute.”
