A plus-size model has launched a petition to make ‘fatphobia’ a crime.
Harmony Albertini announced her decision after allegedly suffering abuse at the hands of two bakers who made her birthday cake.
She went to pick up the cake after her partner had ordered it online.

The influencer, who has 675,000 TikTok followers, was initially overjoyed.
She even posted a video to thank the bakery based in Montpellier, France.
But Harmony was then forwarded a video of the cake being made in which the audio had not been muted.
The couple who own the bakery reportedly made several insulting comments about the plus-size model.
They were heard making “shocking, fatphobic, misogynistic, and completely cruel remarks,” according to Harmony.

In the video, shared by Harmony before quickly being taken down, a man was reportedly heard comparing the young woman to a “sperm whale” that “will grow” and “explode the next day”.
“Aren’t you ashamed you still eat cakes when you weigh 23 stone?
“I’m angry, I admit it,” he continued before allegedly calling her a “s*ut” and a “fat potato”.

Harmony tried to file a complaint with the authorities, but was told there was nothing they could do as the video was not addressed directly to her.
As a result, she has launched an online petition to enshrine fatphobia in law, as reported by What’s The Jam.
She explained: “Will fatphobia ever really be punishable by law?
“Because when I went to the police to file a complaint and talked about fatphobic insults, it was as if I had said to them, ‘ they told me I was ugly’.
“They don’t understand what it’s about: ableism, people with health problems, undermining a person’s dignity. I’ve experienced fatphobia since childhood.”
“Maybe we won’t get 100,000 signatures.
“Maybe even with that, it won’t lead anywhere.
“But every attempt, whether individual or collective, is an act of reclaiming our dignity and our freedom.
“Nothing is more violent than discrimination against one’s health, but this system still has to be ready to consider it.”
She added, “Please, do not forget this story, especially until you have signed this petition.”
The online petition has accumulated 11,150 signatures of its 100,000 target.
