A travelling comedian has revealed a hotel where ducks really are the stars of the show – living in luxury and being looked after by their very own staff.
Zane Lamprey, 53, who tours the US with his comedy shows, spends his free time exploring unusual local spots – and the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, was top of his list.
The hotel is famous for its Peabody Ducks, who live in a £148,000 marble rooftop house and are guided daily by a dedicated ‘duckmaster’.

Kenon, the Peabody’s current Duckmaster, explained that the ducks only stay at the hotel for a few months each year, before migrating elsewhere once their flight feathers grow.

Each day, the ducks are escorted down a hotel lift, complete with a mosaic duck pattern, to the lobby fountain, where crowds gather to watch them splash about in a tradition that has been running since 1930.
The quirky custom began after the hotel’s owners, inspired by a tipple too many, placed decoy hunting ducks in the fountain.
Guests loved it, and the Peabody Ducks became a permanent fixture.
Zane said the moment he heard about the hotel’s feathered residents, he knew he had to stay there.

“People talk about the Peabody Ducks with such affection,” he told What’s The Jam.
“I’ve had more people reaching out about this ducks in the fountain video than any other video I’ve ever made, including my stand-up special.
“People love animals, and then me, somewhere down the line.”

The Peabody Ducks continue to be a must-see for visitors, proving that sometimes the smallest guests get the royal treatment.
