Killer whales have been spotted tossing seals into the air off the British coast.
The orcas were spotted tossing the hapless seal in the air before eating it, in the Farne islands, Northumberland.
William Shiel, from Billy Shiel’s Boat Trips, said he’s never seen anything like it.

He said: “Orca tossing a seal before dining.
“I’ve seen it on TV but never thought we’d see that at the Farne Islands.
“We had a sighting in early May but that was the first sighting of Orcas at the Farne Islands in well over 50 years
“But we haven’t seen them feeding here before.”
Killer whales are notorious for playing with their prey as reported by What’s The Jam.

They flip dolphins out of the water, toss sea lions in the air, and gang up to wash seals off icebergs.
It’s believed the behaviour might be a strategic hunting tactic.
The orcas are thought to have travelled south from the Shetland and Orkney Islands to feed on the abundant seals of Northumberland.

Grey seals are born on the Farne Islands between October and December.
Marine biologist Nicola Everitt: “This shows we have a healthy grey seal population.”
